The Bite House is the 12 seat restaurant of Chef Bryan Picard. Finding inspiration in the seasons of Cape Breton Island, Chef Picard shares his passion for locally sourced food, and the community he now calls home, through a set tasting menu.
In the hills above the Bras D’or Lakes, in a century old farmhouse, is where you will find The Bite House. The farmhouse (the home of Chef Picard) provides the most charming of settings to indulge in the joy of food. The menu is prepared using food sourced from independent growers, forged or grown in their own garden, and changes frequently according to what Picard has available.
From the lovely dog who greeted us as we arrived, to the twinkle of the lights that guided us out after dinner, dinner at The Bite House is the most wonderful of culinary experiences. It was an experience that reminded us of the importance of connecting with the food, and to those you are sharing it with. Relaxed and welcoming, dinner at The Bite House is as though a friend has invited you to a fun dinner party. Classic vinyl plays softly in the background, as a selection of top Nova Scotian wines and beers flow freely.
The menu was incredibly well conceived and executed perfectly. Each bite, each course, complimented the next and the one before it. The bright, freshness of the food captured August in Cape Breton perfectly… sunny days on the beach, fields of wildflowers in bloom, ripe berries, and just a little bit heat.
If you find yourself on Cape Breton Island, I hope you have the good fortune to be welcomed for dinner at The Bite House.
The Bite House was featured in Food Bloggers of Canada: Where to Eat Cape Breton Island Edition as a top spot for dinner on the Island.
The Bite House is open for dinner Wednesday to Sunday each week May till December.
