A slight hiatus with my Friday Favorites posts but my friends everyone needs a break from time to time. It’s been a busy two months here – I helped organize a local food conference, the lovely husband has been home.. which meant a lot more cooking, and a lot less writing about it, a few little vacations in the mix, and the backyard needed some love and attention. Simply life got in the way of blogging, it happens. So this post is a collection of all the things I’ve found and loved along the way the past few weeks. I hope you enjoy this post, and enjoy the posts each week. And as things are back to normal around my household watch this space for my favorite things each week!
Shrimp with Hot Pepper and Mint. I love the sound of this recipe from Ricardo Cuisine. Grilled shrimp make great tapas for easy outdoor entertaining in the summer. The spice from the peppers would be well balanced with the mint in the marinade. Served with an easy rosé sauce I think this recipe would be a fabulous addition to your weekend BBQ plans!
Favorite Picnic Recipes.
Some cut up veggies, a ham sandwich or tuna salad, and maybe a few cookies it is easy to stick with the basics when planning a picnic lunch. And yes picnic food needs to be simple, needs to travel well, but it doesn’t need to be boring. Favorite Gardening Tip.
Growing Kitchen Herbs via Epicurious. The opening line of this article is brilliant and oh so true: Growing a kitchen herb garden is just like cooking: it engages all the senses, it’s relaxing—and sometimes, it just doesn’t work out. Currently my herb garden falls into both of those categories, with basil being the real problem child, the photo shows happier days in my little kitchen herb garden. Truthfully I neglected for a few days, okay a week, and that was it. So I’m back to square one. But it’s a labor of love and I will keep working on it. I do love these four tips for getting those most out of your kitchen herb garden.
Blueberry Jam & Prosecco Cocktail. Yes, yes and yes! A little sweet, a little tart, but simple perfection for an afternoon sip in the backyard. The sweetness of the jam is mellowed by the lemon juice, Prosecco, and the garnish of thyme. Just be sure to use a dry Prosecco, you need the acidity for balance. A sweet sparkler will ruin the drink.
Nzymes Pet Supplements. So I am the first to admit giving your dogs supplements sounds little.. Well it sounds a little silly. But I am amazed at the positive changes I’ve seen in the fur children since starting them on Nzymes Antioxidant Treats and Bac-Pak Plus. Both of our dogs suffer from allergy issues and the pug recurrent ear inflections, since starting on this supplement regime those issues have been resolved. Overall they seem much healthier and happier! Plus the ‘treats’ are truly a favorite and something they look for each night after feeding.
